Frequently Asked Questions About Orthodontic Treatment

Yes. The initial consultation with Dr Adith is a complimentary 30-minute assessment and discussion. There is no cost and no obligation to proceed. It does not include the comprehensive diagnostic records required for a definitive treatment plan.
No. You can book directly with Parnell Orthodontics. A dentist or specialist may also refer you, and we work collaboratively with your existing dental team where appropriate.
Treatment fees generally range from $8,900 to $14,900, depending on complexity, duration and the appliances or additional mechanics required. After the complimentary consultation, comprehensive diagnostic records and specialist treatment planning cost $550. A definitive plan, fee and payment options are provided after that diagnostic process.
Yes. Parnell Orthodontics offers 0% interest-free payment options over 12–18 months through Q Card or Gem Visa, subject to provider approval and terms. A 5% discount is available for eligible upfront payment. The team will explain the available options with your treatment quote.
Cover varies substantially between insurers and policies. Some plans provide a limited orthodontic benefit; many do not. Check your policy directly with your insurer. We can provide treatment and payment documentation to support an eligible claim, but we cannot confirm cover on the insurer’s behalf.
Many comprehensive treatments take about 18–24 months. Simpler treatment may be shorter and complex treatment may take longer. Your estimate depends on the diagnosis, growth, tooth movements, appliance, oral health, attendance and cooperation required.
Neither is universally better. Braces offer direct control and do not rely on removal and wear compliance. Invisalign® / Angel Aligner® Pro clear aligners are discreet and removable but must usually be worn for 20–22 hours per day. Dr Adith recommends the option that best fits the required movements, bite, supporting tissues and lifestyle.
No fixed upper age limit applies. Adults can be treated when the teeth, gums and supporting bone are healthy enough for the planned movements. Existing crowns, veneers, implants or periodontal concerns may require additional planning with your dentist or specialist.
A child should be assessed when a parent, dentist or other clinician notices a developing bite, eruption or jaw-growth concern. An assessment does not mean treatment will start. Many children are monitored until the timing is more appropriate.
A specialist orthodontist is a dentist who has completed accredited postgraduate specialist training focused on tooth movement, bite correction and jaw relationships, and is registered in the orthodontic scope of practice. General dentists provide broad dental care; some also provide selected orthodontic services.
Orthodontic treatment may address crowding, spacing, protruding teeth, crossbites, open bites, underbites, overjets, deep overbites, impacted teeth and selected skeletal or interdisciplinary problems. The appropriate pathway depends on the cause and severity.
Having braces fitted is generally not painful. Tenderness or pressure for several days after fitting and some adjustment appointments is common. The team will explain safe comfort measures for you and when to contact the clinic.
Avoid biting hard, sticky or very chewy foods that can damage brackets and wires. Cut firm foods such as apples and raw carrots into small pieces. Limit sugary drinks and snacks, and follow the cleaning guidance provided at fitting.
Yes. Wear an orthodontic mouthguard for contact or high-impact sport. Parnell Orthodontics can advise on a mouthguard that accommodates tooth movement and protects the lips, teeth and appliance.
Contact Parnell Orthodontics for advice. Orthodontic wax can temporarily cover a sharp area. Do not cut or reposition a wire unless the clinical team has advised you to do so. Seek urgent care for trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, swelling affecting breathing, or another medical emergency.
